Dan Tzivoni, MD
Professor of Cardiology (Emeritus)
Prof. Tzivoni is a graduate of the Hebrew University Hadassah Medical School. After completing his cardiology training at Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem he undertook a clinical and research fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles under the leadership of Jeremy Swan and William Ganz.
For 12 years Prof. Tzivoni served as the Associate Director of the Department of Cardiology at Bikur Holim Hospital in Jerusalem and from 1992 until December 2013 he was the Director of the Department of Cardiology of Shaare Zedek Medical Center. Under his leadership, from a 5 bed cardiology service, he built a modern 50 bed Cardiology Department with all of the modern facilities including: intensive care, advanced cardiac catheterization and interventional laboratories, electrophysiology service, non-invasive cardiology, cardiac rehabilitation center and a very active clinical research center.
Dan Tzivoni is a full professor at the Hebrew University Hadassah Medical School with over 240 publications, most of them in peer-reviewed journals. He was the first (together with Prof. S. Stern) to describe the phenomenon of Silent Ischemia. He was the first to describe the use of Magnesium in the treatment of a life threatening ventricular arrhythmia known as Torsade de Pointes. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people owe their lives to this treatment which today is known to every medical student.
Prof. Tzivoni was on the editorial boards of leading cardiology journals and served on many national and international committees. He is a past president of the Israel Heart Society (2005-2007), a member of the Israeli Health Basket Committee of the Ministry of Health. He served on the European Society of Cardiology’s credentials committee. Prof. Tzivoni is a (honorary) member of the Israel Heart Society, Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology, Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Fellow of the American Heart Association.
Prof. Tzivoni is an expert in the field of medical malpractice. He has extensive experience in writing medical reports at the request of lawyers and judges. He teaches this topic to lawyers in the Post Graduate School at Tel Aviv University.
Prof. Tzivoni’s cardiac consultation clinic is in the Department of Cardiology at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem.
